LED LIGHTING CAN FIGHT CLIMATE CHANGEIn a 2012 the Department Energy of released a report called Energy Savings Potential of Solid-State Lighting in General Illumination Applications, which estimated that LED lighting technology market share will hit just over 73% by 2030, reducing electricity consumption of lighting by roughly 46%. This would be a cumulative reduction of 2,700 terawatt-hours, saving approximately $250 billion and reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 210 million metric tons of carbon.
LED market share currently stands at less than 10% of all lighting in the United States, leaving 63% to go before hitting carbon reduction numbers forecasted by the Department of Energy. But as global average temperatures continue to rise, the question becomes, do we have another 20 years to wait for this reduction in carbon emissions?
Getting LED lighting now will bring us closer to meeting the carbon reductions forecasted be the DoE, today. Rather than 20 years from now. And they will help you save money on your electric bill too.
LED LIGHTING IS SAFER FOR YOU TOO
One of the problems with CFL lighting is the extensive use of mercury in the product. Mercury has been shown to cause sever brain damage and growth defects in adults and children. Even dropping a CFL releases enough of the chemical to be dangerous. LEDs do not contain any mercury and are better for than environment.
